All things considered, an extremely positive interaction. In the course of his (standard) safety inspection he advised me of 3 electrical issues that need to be addressed somewhat urgently, and our home is only 6 years old. Estimates were clear and there is no hard sell. I will definitely use West Houston Electric in the future. Update: Joseph returned today to perform the additional services. I would give more than 5 stars if it was an option. He replaced our whole-house surge protector, installed a new grounding rod and corrected a grounding error he identified (and patiently explained to me) in an electrical subpanel. Update: Turns out we incurred more damage than just the blown circuits. The warranty on our whole-house surge protector was declined by both the manufacturer and West Houston Electric. We are on our own for the thousands of dollars of damage caused to our home electronics from an electrical surge that somehow got past that $800 device. The manufacturer claimed that the device is working as intended, and West Houston Electric insists that it is installed properly (even though nobody came to double check whether that is the case). I don't understand how both can be right under the circumstances. Buyer beware. I've learned my lesson.

He added a home surge protector, replaced the outlets in my laundry room with GFCI, applied sealant to prevent water from getting in the electrical panel, and replaced all the smoke detectors. This is my GO electric company. From the moment I called in I was greeted with professionalism and was very empathetic to my situation. They showed up within the time frame they promised.
